In 1938,
businessman Scott King
recognized the need for homelike
accommodations for weary travelers and our first motor
court was established in San Diego. The Travelodge
name was introduced in 1939 and in 1946 the company was
incorporated.
We cater
to our guests by continually offering services and
resources that make their travel stress free. We
support an employee recognition program so that we may
encourage and "reinforce" above and beyond the
call of duty service from staff members. Travelodge LAX
is proud to have one of our own staff receive the national
employee appreciation award in 2002!
Travelodge has also become well known by our family -
friendly mascot, Sleepy Bear. Fashioned in 1954,
Sleepy Bear serves as our Ambassador to Children and
can be seen attending community and charity events serving
several of our interests:

Travelodge and Ronald McDonald House
Charities
joined forces in 1998 to implement a cause
marketing program designed to provide needed items to Ronald
McDonald Houses, raise funds and awareness for RMHC
endeavors, as well as bring smiles to families staying at
Ronald McDonald Houses.
The
cornerstone of the program is the donation and
installation of Sleepy Bear's Den rooms in Ronald McDonald
Houses. Travelodge LAX also participates and puts on
monthly dinners at our local Ronald McDonald House in Los
Angeles.
At
our hotels we
have also
created special
kid's rooms,
referred to as
The Sleepy Bear
Den.
Sleepy Bear
truly gives us a
family friendly
touch that
cannot be found
elsewhere.
